PC Gamer has posted a moving account of a battle that took place in Eve Online this week, with more than 2,000 players taking part. Though it wasn't a record-breaker (although for a single system, it wasn't too far off), it looks to be one for the New Eden history books, thanks to the prior call to arms put out by a fella named Chappy78.
I won't go into too much detail, only to say that on the eve of his 42nd birthday, Chappy requested a celebratory battle among friends and enemies, on account that he likely wouldn't be seeing his 43rd due to a recent cancer diagnosis. Of course, despite the lateness of the hour, the request went far and wide and thousands joined in the celebration of violence, much to the joy and satisfaction of the instigator.
There's a lot more to the story than that, of course, so much that I would urge you to check it out. If you are subsequently unmoved, please check with a priest to ensure you have a soul.
